Best of the Biennale Sydney 2012!

Rosalie Gascoigne

Gascoigne was recommended to me at Uni to have a look at as she works with similar principles as I do with wood. So was a good find when I saw this work Metropolis. 1999. It is a collection of road signs collaged on wood. Was really nice to see in person as it is super reflective with halogen lights on it. In one way similar to my shellac work for drawing.

Yuken Teruya

This Japanese artist was just amazing. I have seen images of his work before on the Internet but again to see it in person was something else. On display were around 20-25 of these cut out bags in clear boxes. Each box having light shine through them to reveal the work inside the bags. Was amazed about he detail and accuracy of these works. This particular work is called Notice - Forest, 2006.

Donald Judd. 1928-1994

As you can guess I was very interested in this piece by Mr Judd. Created in 1975 these six 'Douglas Fir plywood' boxes with no title. These works show the natural grain and colour of this particular wood and he is also integrating how an object ca hold space and shadow that alludes the box to seem irregular and not square.

Tiffany Singh

This huge installation by Tiffany Singh left me standing there for quite sometime listening to the wooden bells attached to some of the colourful ribbons. As I was in the pier, a family with three young kids were viewing this piece, well the parents were. The three young kids were enjoying themselves by running through the installation touching as many ribbons as possible, and I'm glad they did. They were hitting all the right tunes so to speak, the sound was amazing.

Rebecca Baumann - 'Automated Colour Field' 2011

These laser cut coloured paper rectangles flip over in 1 minute intervals. Changing colours at different times, your eyes always miss the flip over and you stand there turning your head every time you hear one flick. This was one of my favourites as I could have stayed there forever watching these colours change and I also took interest in the mechanical aspect of this work and how it was installed, must have taken some time.

So although there were many more art to show I thought these pieces stood out to me the most.
